Recession and unemployment are making this a gloomy time not only for retailers, but also for shopping center operators.
The International Council of Shopping Centers is bringing together five industry leaders in Raleigh on Wednesday to talk about the troubling trends in retailing.
The topic for the panelists at the North Raleigh Hilton is how they continue to do business despite the difficult market. The shopping center trade group is predicting a drop of more than 5 percent in retail sales for the first half of this year.
Participants in Raleigh include Rocky Mount-based Boddie-Noell Enterprises, Charlotte mortgage bankers Grandbridge Real Estate Capital, and Florida-based shopping-center operator Regency Centers.
