Wake County residents upset with recent annexation plans may have nothing to worry about.

The Holly Springs Town Council passed a resolution Tuesday to try to fix the issue with Fuquay-Varina's involuntary annexation.

Fuquay-Varina wants to expand to include the Wake County area around Sunset Lake and James Slaughter Roads.

About 1,500 people live there and many oppose the land grab. Fuquay-Varina leaders say they want to make the move because a 10-year agreement giving them rights to the land is about to expire and that could allow Holly Springs to annex the area.

Holly Springs officials said they never showed any interest in the area. Holly Springs passed a resolution that would keep the annexation rights boundary the same but put an end to involuntary annexations.

"What we're saying is when those people those good people an option to, if and when they feel like they need to be annexed for water, sewer, for whatever reason, fire protection let them make the choice, that's all we're saying," said Holly Springs Mayor Dick Sears.

Town managers from both towns will meet to discuss the proposal on Thursday.

Fuquay-Varina Town Manager Andy Hedrick says he's glad the two towns plan to talk about the issue.
