A woman was assaulted by an unknown male on the street near Orange Methodist Church, police said Wednesday.
Police said the alleged sexual assault that occurred on Thursday, Feb. 19 at about 8 p.m.
The individual stated that she was assaulted after she got off the bus in the area of the Orange Methodist Church on Martin Luther King near Homestead Road.
The individual walked across the street heading in the direction of the Chapel Ridge Apartments continuing along a cut through. As she neared a Dumpster, a male (age and race unknown) grabbed her from behind and held a large knife to her throat. The perpetrator may have been wearing a wind suit that is black in color and is possibly 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches in height.
The Chapel Hill Police is encouraging individuals to be aware of their surroundings and remember whenever possible, walk with a friend and in well lit areas. Should you encounter anyone acting suspicious, contact 911 immediately.
