In a back room at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cary, a small group of unemployed people were looking for support.
Thursday, there were only three people.
The man who worked with IBM for 26 years, the grandfather who has spent the extra time with his grand kids and the other man who comes every once in a while all discussed the struggles they are having with unemployment.
Every other Thursday since January, unemployed people have gathered at noon for Christ the King's unemployment support group.
Participants bring their lunches and talk for about an hour or more.
The group is facilitated by Associate Pastor David Brooks, who has experienced his own journey with unemployment.
Brooks said he hopes the program will help reverse the negative perception of unemployment.
"Being able to tell that story releases that sense of shame," he said.
