Two sites in North Carolina's Triangle are set to become centers for homeland security research.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reports that officials on Tuesday unveiled two new groups that have won more than $25 million from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for research projects.
The Institute for Homeland Security Solutions was unveiled at a news conference in Research Triangle Park. U.S. Rep. David Price, D-N.C., says the institute will emphasize work on issues related to terrorism.
The Center of Excellence for the Study of Natural Disasters, Coastal Infrastructure and Emergency Management was dedicated at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Officials say that grant will be used to model storm behavior and study better ways to build structures.
