A spokesman for Sony Ericsson has confirmed that about 450 employees will be laid off, beginning as early as Tuesday.
Aldo Liguori tells NBC17 that the RTP location is the only location in North America that announced lay offs on Monday.
In a press release from Sony Ericsson, the company announced that certain changes and reductions will be taking place to "ensure that it can remain competitive in the dynamic and fast-paced telecommunications industry."
The press release states, "the measures that are being taken by Sony Ericsson are aimed at becoming a faster, more agile and more cost efficient organization."
