Elle Woods, a fiddler on the roof, and an Oprah Winfrey original work are all coming to 'Bull City'.
Thursday morning the innaugrual line up for the new Durham Performing Arts Center was announced at Durham Chamber of Commerce annual luncheon.
The much anticipated rundown of shows will include Legally Blonde The Musical, RENT, Fiddler on the Roof and the Color Purple.
The $40 million project is expected to open in January 2009. Nederlander Producing Company and Professional Facilities Management oversee the daily operation of the center and book talent. Lynn Singleton, CEO of Nederlander, said Durham is lucky to get shows of this magnitude.
"Usually cities like Durham don't get shows like this until they are three years running," Singleton. "Durham has secured them within the first six months of their opening."
The 2,800 seat multi use performance theater will also host the American Dance Festival each summer and various other mid-size performances throughout the year.
