DURHAM, N.C. -

At a regular committee meeting, members of Durham's school board received an update on the current fiscal year's budget from district staff.

Committee chair Stephen Martin said the largest change was an approximately $3 Million cutback. The budget reduction was a result of the Durham County commission asking the school system to give back the money to help deal with revenue shortfalls and tough economic times.

Martin says much of the money given back was money received from state lottery proceeds.

District leaders will receive a draft of next fiscal year's budget on March 26th. .

They will go over it at a public hearing on April 9th.
