After nearly two years of eating meals out of a temporary facility on campus, North Carolina Central University students are returning from spring break this week to a newly renovated, 56,000 square foot, multi-level facility. The W.G. Pearson Cafeteria officially opens on Monday and university officials expect the facility to become a hub of activity on the campus.
The facility is vibrant and welcoming with modern décor, upbeat colors and plasma televisions throughout the dining room. With seating for over 1,200, there is a wide variety of all-you-can-eat food stations. The renovated facility also boasts a cyber café on the lower level, a convenience store, and the university ticket office. There is also a teaching kitchen and dining room for students in NCCU's hospitality and tourism department to hone their skills. A faculty and staff deli, also housed in the new facility, will open in the coming weeks.
To salute the opening of the facility, Chancellor Charlie Nelms and other university officials will bring greetings on Tuesday, March 17 from 1:00-1:30pm at the W.G. Pearson Cafeteria on Lawson Street. The media is invited to attend.
