University of North Carolina fans waited outside the Dean Dome to thank the UNC men's basketball team for a great season.
"I think it's important for fans to come out and show respect for all the guys did this year," said UNC fan, Jeff Federman.
Many standing outside in the cold were still recovering from Saturday's loss.
"A little disappointed, it was exciting when they went on a run, but things didn't work out the way we wanted them to," said Federman.
But the mood was cheerful when the bus pulled up, and one by one the UNC players walked by the cheering fans, offering a 'Thank you' and a polite wave.
Of course Carolina fans were hoping for a very different homecoming -- maybe a parade and another banner hung in the Dean Dome -- but even without a title these fans say the Tar Heels are still number one in their hearts.
"It's sad, but we got to realize that they're just kids and they need some help, some support and that's what we're here for," said UNC fan, Ann Farmer.
Now fans are looking forward to next season and they let the team know they'll be there from the start wearing their Carolina Blue
"I don't miss a game, I watch the games winning or losing and that goes for football too," said Federman.
"I think they'll win it next year," said UNC fan Parker Lewis.
