FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

Dr. James A. Anderson, Chancellor of Fayetteville State University (FSU), is pleased to announce the establishment of the "Chancellor for a Day" program beginning in December 2008.

The program is designed to enable students to gain a better understanding of the day-to-day operations of the University by shadowing the Chancellor for one day. They will participate in all of the activities and meetings scheduled for the Chancellor. The main goals of the program are to: 1) give students an opportunity to be a part of the administrative process; 2) emphasize the role of the student in the university; 3) give students experience in the decision making process; and 4) enable students to gain some understanding of the leadership skills required for managing a multifaceted organization and the synergy required for operating as a whole.

Students interested in being selected "Chancellor for a Day" must send in a letter of application of no more than 500 words, which tells why they want to be Chancellor for a day, and gives evidence of their interest in leadership from their participation in student or community organizations, or in the academic major. Applicants must give compelling factors about themselves to prove that they are the best person to be Chancellor for a Day and must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher.

Student applications will be reviewed by the Chancellor for a Day Selection Committee which is comprised of members of the Student Government Association and the Chancellor's Office. One student will be selected bi-monthly. All applications must be in at least twenty days prior to the month in which the student will serve as Chancellor for a Day. Notification of acceptance will be ent from the Chancellor's Office.

The application deadline is November 10, 2008 for those interested in being considered for the month of December. Applications will stay in the pool for a year. All applications should include name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, academic major, and classification, and be sent by e-mail to Dr. Bertha H. Miller, Special Assistant to the Chancellor (bmiller@uncfsu.edu).
