With the downturn in economy maybe hurting, local gun stores are struggling to keep up with the demand.
As more evidence of the weak U.S. economy appears in headlines, one industry is seeing an increase in sales.
Local gun stores, like Indoor Range in South Raleigh, say gun sales are up and they are struggling to keep up with the demand.
Mike Tilley, owner of Handgun Safety Center, said sales haven't been this good since Y2K. He says gun owners are worried that President-Elect Barack Obama will make it hard or even impossible to own guns.
On Saturday morning the Handgun Safety Center was packed with first-time customers and owners looking to add to their collections. Tilley says he'll sometimes get gun shipments in the morning and will be gone by the afternoon.
"New customers coming in that have never purchased before, who are just concerned their rights to purchase and right to protect themselves in the future will be gone," said Tilley.
One customer said he was worried that Obama will team up with a democratic congress to overhaul the country's gun laws.
"I have a fear that the second amendment will be violated or trampled upon or just totally undermined," said gun owner Jim Kerick.
During a presidential debate, Obama said local governments should be able to pass their own gun laws to reduce crime, but he also said the second amendment offers the individual right to bare arms.
