DURHAM, N.C. -

The first three naming opportunities in the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) Capital Campaign features well known Durham names John S. "Shag" and Otelia Spaulding Stewart, Duke Energy, and KeySource Bank.

Lifelong Durham resident and local realtor Jim Stewart, his wife Frances Dyer, and sisters Jan Steele and Marie Foley, wanted to recognize their parents with a donation to the DPAC Capital Campaign. Stewart's father was a long-time fixture on the Durham City Council, which included a term as mayor pro tempore.

Thanks to this gift, the Box Office Manager's Office will be dedicated to their parents' memory.

"Mom and Dad were always enthusiastic cheerleaders for Durham. We wanted something that would be a lasting tribute and there was no site that seemed more appropriate than Durham's beautiful new performing arts center," said Stewart. "The destination nature of the DPAC, combined with its location in a revitalized downtown, is a fitting match for the type of lofty visions my parents had for the City of Durham. They would be very proud of all that Durham has accomplished, especially the opening of the DPAC."

Duke Energy will "power the DPAC Box Office" according to the attractive, brushed steel acknowledgement that will soon appear above the box office windows. "Duke Energy has always been involved in the Durham community and we were thrilled to learn of the opportunities for corporate and individual support at the DPAC," said Ken Kernodle, business relations manager for Duke Energy Carolinas. "It is critical for this great facility to succeed, and we are very pleased to support the Capital Campaign."

KeySource Bank is a close neighbor of the DPAC, having moved into its headquarters offices at the new Diamond View II Building, adjacent to the DPAC, in June. "We can't wait until the DPAC opens and brings an incredible line-up of shows to Durham and the Triangle," said Don Draughon, chief executive officer of KeySource Bank. "People who haven't been to downtown Durham lately are going to be amazed at this facility and the millions of square feet of development currently underway there. We are just very pleased to play a part in it."

"These three commitments get our DPAC Capital Campaign off to an excellent start," said Alan DeLisle, assistant city manager for the City of Durham's Office Economic & Workforce Development. "One of the attractive aspects of this campaign is that, in addition to the funds it provides toward completion and enhancement of the DPAC, a share goes toward other Durham arts organizations including the Durham Arts Council, Carolina Theater, and the Hayti Heritage Center."

The DPAC is owned by the City of Durham and is operated by a partnership of PFM and Nederlander. For more information, visit www.dpacnc.com.
