The military says one of seven soldiers charged in the death of a fellow paratrooper at Fort Bragg will go to trial.
The 82nd Airborne Division said Friday that Sgt. Justin Boyle of Rocky Point, N.Y., will be court-martialed for involuntary manslaughter and other charges in the July 20 death of 27-year-old Pfc. Luke Brown of Fredericksburg, Va. The charge carries a maximum 10 years in prison.
Testimony in January revealed that Brown became unruly after drinking at a Fayetteville bar. A witness said soldiers from Brown's unit tried to restrain the 6-foot, 250-pound man by punching him and tying his hands. When they drove back to the post barracks, Brown was unresponsive.
Commanders haven't decided whether the other six soldiers will face trial. Boyle's attorney didn't immediately return a message Friday.
