DURHAM, N.C.

Durham County is seeing one water-saving program take hold. Since last week, officials at Durham's Water Management say they've given away nearly 28,000 gallons of reclaimed water.

Reclaimed water is treated water that can be used in construction, landscaping, and sewer cleaning, but not for drinking. Officials at Water Management say nearly 250 people have attended the required training to get the water. And so far, about 40 truckloads have stopped by to get their fill.

Organizers expect a spike in customers once it gets warmer, since the water's fit for landscaping. Reclaimed water is free, but there's a 250 gallon minimum for each customer.
