DURHAM, N.C. -
Durham police closed U.S. 70 between Miami Boulevard / U.S. 70 Business and East End Avenue following a traffic accident Friday morning.
Police set up a detour route by using U.S. 70 at Cheek Road and U.S. 70 at N.C. 98 as alternate routes while crews cleared the scene.
The accident happened at 11:52 a.m. A car driving eastbound ran off the right side of U.S. 70 and went out of control. Authorities say the car spun back across the eastbound lanes into westbound traffic. The car collided into another car.
The driver of the car driving eastbound was Theophilus Parker of Durham, who was taken to Duke Hospital with critical injuries. No charges have been filed at this time and the accident remains under investigation.
