Two people were killed in a one-car accident Tuesday afternoon on Old Oxford Highway east of Craven Street near the city limits.
The accident happened shortly after 3 p.m. when an eastbound 2004 Nissan Maxima driven by Marcus Rogers, 19, of Ruth Street ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle then went out of control, struck a ditch, flipped over numerous times and landed in the woods. All three occupants were ejected from the vehicle.
Two people - Destinee Taylor, 16, of Durham and 22-year-old Demonte Antwann Cissell- were pronounced dead at the scene.
Durham police originally reported that the driver, Marcus Rogers, died from his injuries. Rogers remains at Duke University Hospital in critical condition.
Speed was a factor in the accident, according to investigators.
