JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. -

Each month, the Johnston County Schools Board of Education recognizes an employee who is helping the district move from good to great. This month, two employees are being recognized for the months of July and August.

The Employee for July is Lou Ann Woodard, retiring teacher at Meadow School. Her principal, Rodney Peterson nominated her for this honor. According to Mr. Peterson, she has been at Meadow School for 32 years. One of the many things that make her remarkable is that she has retired to allow a younger teacher to keep her job. Mr. Peterson said, "Last Thursday she came and indicated to me she was retiring. Saddened by the news I asked why and she simply replied "it was time." In addition, she made it clear that her service to the community has been a blessing. She added that it was her hope that her service has been as important to the lives she has touched as they have been to her. Besides, she said, it is time to pass the torch to allow someone younger the rich opportunity to serve. And if that means my retiring can allow a young teacher to keep their job that will make it even sweeter. Not only has Mrs. Woodard touched the lives of countless children, she has also has been a wonderful team-mate. This is why she is our nominee for employee of the month."

The Employee for August is Christie Vinson, administrative assistant to Patricia Hester at Central Services. She was nominated by Ms. Hester who said, "Christie Vinson exemplifies the commitment that it takes to lead a district to greatness. Her purpose each day is not just to do a day's work, but make the day a benefit for others. Christie is innovative and focused in her job performance as she seeks to fulfill not only the mission but the vision of Johnston County Schools. Though she is not directly associated with students in the schools, she is directly connected to assistant principals, principals, and teachers as she performs her duties in Professional Development Services who do influence the lives of children.

Christie does not know what the word "no" means. She may be the administrative assistant in Professional Development Services, but she works with anyone who needs her assistance in any area. She always seeks answers to questions that come her way. She is always positive and the end results are always a benefit to the Johnston County Schools.

She is reflective and honest. She always seeks to go beyond what is required of her. One can frequently hear her say, "The children deserve all we have to give." She is one of the hardest working individuals that I know. Nothing is ever a challenge; it is always an opportunity.

Principals and Assistant Principals praise her abilities and dedication to the Johnston County Schools. Christie is most definitely helping Johnston County Schools go from good to great.
