JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. -

A South Carolina inmate on the run for more than a year has been apprehended in North Carolina.

South Carolina Department of Corrections spokesman Josh Gelinas said Wednesday that 29-year-old Rayshawn James was captured Tuesday night in Johnston County, N.C.

James has been on the run since June 2008, when he walked away from the Palmer Pre-Release Center in Florence, S.C. He began serving a six-year sentence for crack distribution in September 2007.

Gelinas says James now faces felony escape charges in South Carolina, as well as multiple traffic-related violations in North Carolina.

A South Carolina woman has also been charged with helping James escape. Officials say Antinya Poe misled investigators and withheld information about James' whereabouts.
