One person is in the hospital with serious injuries after being in a two-car accident that involved a Durham police officer Tuesday night.
The Durham Police Watch Commander said in a news release the accident happened at 9:28 p.m. at the intersection of South Miami Boulevard and Laurel Drive when a patrol vehicle and a 1993 Mercury Cougar collided.
According to the news release, the officer was traveling eastbound on S. Miami Blvd. when the Cougar, driven by a male, pulled out into the travel lane from Laurel Drive attempting to make a left turn onto S. Miami Blvd and collided with the patrol vehicle.
Five people were inside the Mercury Cougar, four of them were transported to Duke Hospital with injuries. Officials say one of the injured remains in serious condition.
Names of those involved are not being released pending an investigation by the Durham Police Department Traffic Services Unit. Police believe alcohol was a factor on the part of the driver of the Mercury Cougar.
