GARNER, N.C. -

Two teenagers were injured after their car crashed during a police chase, according to the Wake County Sheriff's office.

Wake County deputies said the chase began in downtown Raleigh and came to an end when the car hit a tree on the U.S. 70 exit on Interstate 40 around 11:10 a.m. Monday.

The State Highway Patrol said the car had been reported stolen in Durham early Monday morning. Wake County Sheriff's deputies spotted the car in downtown Raleigh and began following the car and that's when the chase began.

Two teenage girls were in the car and were taken to WakeMed with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Deputies said no officers were injured in the chase.

The Highway Patrol also reported to the accident and will be taking over the investigation.  The names of the two teen girls have not been released at this time.
