The driver of a stolen Lexus has been identified as Jarrod Alexander Carrington, 21, of Miriam Circle, police said Wednesday.
Carrington died as a result of blunt force trauma to the chest Tuesday morning.
Investigators determined that the Lexus was traveling at an excessive speed when the driver lost control in a curve on U.S. 15-501 South. The car hit a guardrail, crossed into the median and struck a large concrete highway sign base.
Police said Carrington had just stolen the 1997 Lexus from a woman who was getting gas at the BP station located at Roxboro Road and Club Boulevard.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call Durham Crimestoppers at 683-1200 or Corporal S. McHenry at 560-4315.
