-The News & Observer Publishing Co. now will only publish its Smithfield newspaper once a week, according to its Web site.
The once bi-weekly publication will only be distributed only on Wednesdays. About 75 percent of the paper’s 14,000 current subscribers will received it for free, the publishing company’s Web site reported, but those living outside the area will still pay current fees.
The Herald’s editorial staff of eight will not change, the News & Observer reported. However, the News & Observer plans to outsource about 16 advertising jobs, the company stated on its Web site.
