CLAYTON, N.C.
-A Johnston County Trooper who witnessed a single vehicle crash on U.S. 70, might just be a hero.
On Jan. 23, Trooper J.L. Thorpe saw a car run off the road and hit a utility poll and several parked cars.
According to a press release, Thorpe ran to the crash site and helped the female driver out of her wrecked car.
An unknown citizen assisted Thorpe in helping the woman out of the vehicle. Thorpe noticed the woman was not breathing and he immediately administered CPR and continued CPR until EMS arrived.
The driver was transported to Johnston Memorial Hospital, but was later airlifted to Duke medical Center.
Dr. Steven Burkholtz of Johnston Memorial said in a written statement that Thorpe’s efforts might have helped save the woman’s life.
As of last Wednesday the driver was still in critical condition.
