A woman who made a false claim more than a year ago about her son being kidnapped is facing federal charges.
On May 18, 2008 Rosnah Hassan Thomason reported her 3-year-old son Siraj Munir Davenport missing at the Brightleaf Flea Market.
Authorities searched for days only to find out the child was safe with a relative and that Thomason was actually the boy's aunt -- not his mother. During interviews with the FBI, Thomason said the day before the boy went missing the two spent time at a park in Raleigh.
After a court ordered search of her home authorities found computer printouts that revealed Thomason had booked flights for her and a child, who is referred to as MHK in the statement, on May 12. A check with Raleigh-Durham International Airport Authorities revealed that on May 17, Thomason and the child traveled from RDU to Atlanta, then to Minneapolis-St. Paul. Thomason then returned to RDU the same day without the child.
Investigators state in the criminal complaint that during the search of the home, investigators also found internet printouts on how to report a missing child. The document was printed on May 12.
On May 19, Thomason admitted to FBI that she lied to authorities. She claims that her brother Kamarudin Hassan threatened to harm her, her boyfriend, and Siraj if the child was not turned over to him. Thomason claims the idea to report the boy missing was Hassan's.
Authorities found the boy with Hassan in Japan. Hassan told authorities that the child was biologically his and Thomason refused to turn over the boy after he visited Thomason.
She now faces a federal charge of filing a false report and is scheduled to appear in court today.

I have been an EMT,Emergency Medical Dispatcher, and an American Heart Association CPR Instructor Trainer for over 29 years. First calling in a fake 911 call puts everyone involved at high risk. Firefighters,EMS, and Police answer enough real world 911 calls in a 24 hour period without responding to fake 911 calls. Second it jepardize's citizens that actually need an Ambulance,Fire, or Police Dispatch. Most important is the fact that someone's life could be put in danger that has a real 911 call and no-one to respond because they are on a Prank 911 call. Someone could and people have actually lost their life becuase someone made a prank 911 call and all available units were tied up on a prank call. I think North Carolina as well as all 50 states should make this a Class I Felony. Thank you Richard
