A 19-year-old man accused of killing a Northern High School student has also been indicted on child abuse charges, according to the Durham County District Attorney's office.
A judge denied bond for Cory Jiggetts charged with the murder of Skye Moniqua Lee, 18.
According to officials, Lee was found in an apartment after officers responded to a shooting call at 3628 Keystone Place last week. Officers also found a 10-month-old baby inside the apartment unharmed.
Officials say the baby is now with the victim's family.
Investigators believe the motive for the slaying was domestic.
Jiggetts fled from the scene in what witnesses described as a blue Chevrolet Caprice with chrome rims, but was later found on Young Street and arrested at the 100 block by Durham police.
John Colclough, Principal of Northern High School issued the following written statement:
"We are deeply saddened by this tragic and senseless loss. Our deepest sympathies are with the family and loved ones of Skye Lee."
Police told NBC17 Jiggetts was arrested in December 2007 and charged with assaulting Lee. "It appears that he was ordered to stay away from her as a condition of his release, but it does not look like a formal domestic violence protective order was filed," said Michael.
Jiggetts is charged with murder and is being held at the Durham County Jail without bond. His next court date is scheduled for April 24.
