Storms caused trees to fall onto houses and power lines Sunday night. Emergency crews spent most of the evening cleaning up the mess left behind while power companies worked to restore power.
"Trees were flying pretty much everywhere," said Tony Hamm. He was home cooking on the grill for his family when the storm rolled through.
"It was so fast, totally no warning, it was just that quick," he said.
The storm also halted traffic on I-540.
"We were in a restaurant when the storm came in ... saw the bad winds and ... the darkened skies. I'm from Jersey and I've never seen a tornado and I'm not trying to," said Tavis Higgins.
It appears he is safe. Even though people who were home when the storm came through thought it may have been a tornado, weather officials said it was probably straight line winds.
"Everything kind of got quiet and then the trees started blowing. A lot of the wind and the rain just hit all at one time. And the trees started snapping," said Hamm.
But the National Weather Service will investigate to determine exactly what it was that tore apart the Orange County neighborhood.
Live wires and downed trees made areas dangerous, and there were numerous reports of trees landing on houses, but no body heard about any serious injuries.
"We were blessed, it could have been a lot worse," said Hamm.
