The Apex Fire Department is on standby to help with Hurricane Hanna locally and across the state.
The North Carolina Task Force #4 consists of members of the Apex fire Department who have been trained in Urban Search and Rescue and Swift Water Rescue Diving. The group may have a busy weekend if the storm hits Wake County.
They will assist fire departments in the area with any emergencies that arise because of the storms. Members of the fire department including Ryan Arnett said there will be challenges, but their extensive training is a plus.
"You always got to be a little nervous because anything can happen or go wrong, but we train for any situation so I feel pretty comfortable doing it," Arnett said.
There are ten fire fighters assigned to the unit and they encourage residents to heed the warnings and follow a safety plan.
