RALEIGH, N.C. -

Traffic delays are expected this morning on Capital Boulevard at the Wade Avenue exit due a single-vehicle accident that occurred early Sunday morning.

According to officials, at approximately 3 a.m. Sunday, a truck ran into a large pole for one of the overhead road signs.

Authorities have charged Paul Daniel Ashworth, 32, with DWI and driving with a revoked license.

Police say Ashworth lost control of his truck on Capital Blvd, drifted up over the curb, skidded sideways and struck the pole.  The sign was left on supported, causing it to fall onto the roadway.

Crews began making repairs Sunday morning but officials are not sure how long it will take to fully repair the pole and sign.  Despite light traffic, officials want motorists heading into downtown to be aware of possible traffic delays. The southbound lanes of Capital will reopen when the clean up permits

Authorities say one passenger was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Ashworth admitted to police officers that he consumed several beers shortly before the accident.
