Death row inmate Leroy McNeil died Wednesday of natural causes, according to the state Department of Corrections.
McNeil, 68, was convicted in Wake County for the April 1983 murders of Deborah Jean Fore and Elizabeth Faye Stallings. He incarcerated in Central Prison in Raleigh.
The U.S. Supreme Court remanded his case for reconsideration in 1990. At a new trial in 1996, a jury again sentenced McNeil to death for each of the two murders.
