Demolition crews are making way for Wake Forest's new town hall.
The former American Legion building on East Owen Street is crashing to the ground just beyond the parking lot of the current town offices.
It's one of three old buildings in the footprint of the new facility that are being torn down.
Mayor Vivian Jones said she is optimistic the new hall will open in the fall of 2009, in time for the Centennial Celebration.
"It's very exciting, and we're really having to push, because our last big centennial event is supposed to be in the town hall," she said.
The new building will offer a lot more space. The design might also make town hall more of a visual landmark.
"The round, rotunda-type building where the main entrance is and the council chambers are, I think will be a real nice feature," said Jones.
You can see designs for the new facility on the town's website.
