Sustainability is a hot topic in both the public and private sectors. The Young Professionals Network of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce will host a half-day seminar on "Sustainability Works: Learn Today What You Can Do for Tomorrow" on Friday, Nov. 14, 2008.
The event features a number of speakers, including SAS CEO Jim Goodnight and Progress Energy Carolinas president and CEO Lloyd Yates, who will introduce sustainability concepts.
Kelly Boone of the Center for Sustainable Enterprise at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School will moderate a panel discussion on what businesses are doing to help build sustainable practices within their organizations. The panel features Rob Caldwell of Progress Energy, Alyssa Farrell of SAS, and Rob Rolfsen of Cisco Systems, Inc.
Headlining the day will be Thomas Darden, CEO of Cherokee Investment Partners LLC -- who will help young professionals understand the economical, environmental and social implications of a greener world. He will also discuss how young professionals can make a difference in their communities as well as advance their careers through everyday sustainability practices.
The Nov. 14 Young Professionals Network seminar begins with registration at 7:30 a.m. at SAS Institute, Building V, SAS Campus Drive, Cary. The seminar is free for YPN members and $35 for non-YPN members. Register online by Nov. 7 at www.raleighchamber.org. For more information, call 919.664.7082.
The Chamber's Young Professionals Network, presented by Lenovo, provides programs designed to engage young professionals (ages 25-39) and help them become more competitive in the business arena. YPN helps young professionals establish business contacts through networking and grow both personally and professionally through a variety of program topics.
The Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce is the Triangle's largest non-profit business membership organization made up of more than 2,700 member firms representing two-thirds of the private sector employment in Wake County. The Chamber has represented the interests of the local business community since 1888.
