Cops will be on top --- on a rooftop, that is.
The Wake County Sheriff's Office will stand on top of the Chick-Fil-A roof, 1460 North Main Street from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Deputy Sheriffs will sit on the roof to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics North Carolina athletes as part of the NC Law Enforcement Torch Run®. Special Olympics athletes will be there, along with prizes.
The North Carolina Law Enforcement Torch Run® is a year-long effort to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC). . Since the late 1980's, the Torch Run has raised more than $12 million.
Officers raise funds by hosting unique fundraising events and collecting T-shirt and hat donations. Each spring officers also run a 16-day relay passing the Flame of Hope across the state. The relay culminates in the lighting of the cauldron to begin the SONC Summer Games.
Special Olympics North Carolina provides year-round sports training and competition for more than 38,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics North Carolina is one of the largest Special Olympics programs in the world.
