"I am honored to be a part of the opportunity. This is an exciting time for our country and for me to be a part of the celebration in Washington is going be an amazing, unforgettable experience," remarked Dennis, an English major.
"I know that I will learn so much from the Presidential Inauguration Program, but most importantly I am going to come back to Mount Olive College more appreciative of our great nation. This historic election gives me hope that I, too, can be anything that I dream to be. I am going to remember this experience for the rest of my life," said Guy, a psychology major.
"Going to D.C. for the inauguration is not just an honor, it is a chance of a life time opportunity. I am thankful that MOC has given me this opportunity, and the other nominee's and I are extremely excited about participating in this upcoming event," stated Vickory, a business administration major.
All of the students are juniors and seniors and have achieved academic excellence. They will receive college credit for the experience. The seminars consist of seven days of instruction conducted by expert faculty from various universities. At the end of seminar they will write a final essay as a memo to the new President of the Untied States Barrack Obama.
The students will also attend numerous site visits including: embassies, executive branch offices, Congressional offices, media organizations, nonprofit organizations, think tanks and trade associations.
They do not have tickets to the inauguration, however.
Upon their return the students will present a talk on their experiences for the college community. This will be held on February 26 in the Southern Bank Auditorium, located in W. Burkette and Rose M. Raper Hall.
