DURHAM, N.C. -

US Airways Magazine will highlight Durham as part of its business series in the May 2009 issue of its in-flight magazine, reaching about 6.8 million affluent business and leisure travelers who use the airline to reach more than 235 destinations in 32 countries.

"We selected Durham as a result of common misconceptions associated with this dynamic community," said Carsten Morgan, director of special projects for Pace Communications Inc. "The reality of economic development initiatives and the diversity of the current key industrial and commercial sector are far more interesting than the perception. This is an untold story that truly is enlightening to our affluent and influential audience. It makes sense for us to showcase Durham."

US Airways annually enplanes for 16.1 million passengers in North Carolina accounting for a 68.5 percent market share US Airways enplaned 693,566 passengers at RDU in 2008.

Pace Communications, which publishes the magazine, estimates that the business feature on Durham will be approximately 20 pages in length. It will be devoted entirely to showcasing Durham's growth in economic development and commerce, revitalization of the urban cores, emerging technologies and innovation, academic institutions and healthcare advances. This special section also will promote the outstanding opportunities and quality of life that Durham offers to businesses and individuals who call Durham home.

"We all know that Durham is one of the best places for business and has a unique story that should be told to a national and global audience," said Casey Steinbacher, President & CEO of the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce. "This special feature provides us that opportunity and will be a great tool for institutions and organizations in our community to use when showcasing Durham to economic development clients, prospective employees and new residents."

Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate in this special feature by assisting Pace Communications staff with story ideas and by reserving advertisement space. Interested parties may contact Morgan at 610-438-1189 or email carsten.morgan@verizon.net.
