Clayton police officers arrested a Raleigh man Tuesday evening for allegedly trafficking more than 91 pounds of marijuana with a street value estimated at more than $400,000, according to a press release.
It happened off U.S. Highway 70 Business near Town Centre Boulevard.
"This is the largest drug seizure in Clayton's history, exceeding the 87 pounds seized by officers in November of 2008," Police Chief Glen Allen said. "This is a significant seizure and arrest, considering that these drugs were destined for distribution in and around Clayton."
Police arrested William Gregory Snipes, 43, of 417 Rose Lane in Raleigh. He is charged with two felony counts: trafficking marijuana by possession and trafficking marijuana by transportation.
Snipes is in the Johnston County jail under a $100,000 secure bond.
The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation by Clayton police, the SBI, and Raleigh police.
Clayton police patrol officers assisted in the arrest.
