A North Carolina teenager is facing charges after authorities say he shot his 70-year-old grandmother in her bed.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office said 17-year-old Christopher Lane shot Annell Lane in the shoulder in her Raleigh home after he tried to steal a lock box from under the bed Thursday morning.

Search warrants show the younger Lane took $50 and fled to his vehicle, where he was stopped by his mother and arrested by deputies.

Annell Lane was hospitalized. She told The Associated Press she was feeling fine.

Christopher Lane is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He is in the Wake County jail on a $400,000 secured bond and was scheduled for a court appearance Thursday afternoon.
