RALEIGH, N.C. -

The person who shot and killed a Raleigh woman this weekend is still on the loose and police are asking for the public's help.

Corinnie D. Broadway was shot and killed around seven Saturday evening. Police say the 21-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, at her apartment on the 2100 block of Larson Drive in Raleigh.

Friends cleaning out Broadway's apartment Monday said the reality of her death is sinking in.

"I just really wanna know why," said Shannon Brown, Broadway's best friend.

Broadway's friends have set up flowers and pictures outside of the apartment she was killed in. They said Broadway's laugh and smile will be hard to forget. Lakeishia Jones said Broadway was a dependable neighbor.

"She was an outgoing person, very intelligent, very sweet," Jones said.

Jones said she was helping change the oil in Broadway's car on Saturday, and went out to the store to get some extra oil. She said when she returned, police cars were surrounding Broadway's apartment building.

"It was just a big surprise for me because I had just left like 10 minutes ago," Jones said.

Raleigh Police Department spokesman Jim Sughrue said detectives are still investigating exactly what happened behind the doors of Broadway's apartment and believe the suspect, 22-year-old Khaleel Oyeneyin, can provide the details.

"They were well known to each other and had a relationship on some level," Sughrue said. "Certainly, this is a case in which we need the public's help."

Corinnie Broadway wanted to be a social worker, according to her friends. They said Broadway was getting ready to go back to Shaw University after taking some time off. It's one more reason they question why someone would kill her.

"There's nothing that can make anybody mad enough to kill another human being," said Vicky Brown, Broadway's friend.

Police believe the suspect might be driving a white Lexus GS 300 with North Carolina license tag XNM-5900. They say a warrant has been obtained charging Oyeneyin with the murder of Broadway.
