Nationwide Insurance is pulling out of offering mobile home insurance policies in North Carolina as a way to pare down its property exposure in a hurricane-prone state.
A company spokeswoman said Thursday it would phase out policies for those 15,000 current customers starting in October and ending in October 2010. Elizabeth Stelzer with Nationwide said the company wants to focus on the traditional homeowners' market in the state.
A company executive said in a release that the threat of hurricanes in the state also played a role in making the change.
Nationwide said it's working with local agents to find alternative coverage for the mobile home owners. Nationwide insures more than 1.8 million vehicles, homes and businesses in the state.
