Immigration enforcement groups are pressing lawmakers to prohibit illegal immigrants from attending North Carolina colleges.
Members will call on lawmakers at the Legislative Building on Wednesday to approve a plan to forbid colleges from admitting illegal immigrants. They also are seeking more state money to pay for immigration enforcement.
Last fall, the state's community college system told their campuses that they can't deny admission to people who are in the country illegally.
Lawmakers have introduced several plans which would require North Carolina college students to be legal residents.
But other lawmakers support a plan to bar admissions officials from asking about a student's resident status.
