HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. -

Take a bite out of crime by joining friends, neighbors and Holly Springs police for National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 4 from 6-8 p.m. at Womble Park.

Enjoy a night of music and free food, including hotdogs and hamburgers, popcorn and ice cream. Activities will include a bike safety rodeo for kids 15 and under, taekwondo and dance demonstrations, a watermelon eating contest, inflatables and games for kids. Organizations including the Marine Corps, National Guard, N.C. Wildlife, Interact and Mothers Against Drunk Driving will have information booths.

"The Holly Springs Police Department wants to explain our community policing programs to bring the community together to prevent crime," said Lt. Anthony Revels.

The National Night Out campaign involves citizens, police agencies, civic groups, businesses and neighborhood organizations to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness. The focus is on strengthening the neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

Womble Park is at 1201 Grigsby Ave. in Holly Springs. E-mail anthony.revels@hollyspringsnc.us or dial (919) 567-4721 for more information on National Night Out.

Any time of year, Holly Springs police officers are ready to meet about neighborhood issues or crime prevention tactics. They can advise on starting or rejuvenating Neighborhood Watch programs. To learn more, see the Police section of www.hollyspringsnc.us.
