House and Senate members will meet to discuss competing state budget drafts.
Lawmakers from both chambers will look at state spending levels for health and human services programs Friday. They are expected to consider how much money the state will put into health insurance programs for low-income children.
Democratic Rep. Joe Tolson from Edgecombe County says budget subcommittees are scheduled to make funding recommendations by Monday.
Lawmakers are trying to get a compromise hammered out and sent to Gov. Mike Easley by the end of the month.
The Senate approved a $21.4 billion spending plan Thursday. The House approved a different plan two weeks ago.
