The man accused of driving drunk and killing a 28-year-old Raleigh man this weekend is out on bond.
Raleigh police say 33-year-old Cory Lamar Henderson was speeding on Old Wake Forest Road early Saturday. When he tried to pass another driver, he crashed into him. That other driver, 28-year-old John Ogburn, died. Police say Henderson then tried to run from the accident. Officers arrested him and charged him with death by motor vehicle and DWI. Henderson got out of the Wake County jail on $130,000 bond. But he will be in court on September 21.
It is not his first arrest for DWI. Records show police arrested Henderson for DWI in 2004.
About a third of the people arrested for driving drunk are repeat offenders, according to Craig Lloyd, the state executive director for Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
The group is proposing a state bill that would require people convicted of drunk driving to get ignition interlock systems installed in their cars.
Here's how it works: The driver exhales into a device. If his or her blood alcohol content is about the limit, the car's motor does not start.
"It's a very useful tool. It has proven effective across the United States. We think things like this may have helped to save a life in this instance as well," Lloyd said.
The proposal is before the legislature, he added.

This has nothing to do with race, it is just stupidy and politics letting him out. What benefit other than that could he possibly have used to get out. He took a life after previous convictions. He lost his chance to walk the streets or ever drive again. I agree with Beth Goodwin's statement: Ignorance has no color, neither does alcoholism!

Let me get this straight. Norman's contention is that only black people 'git' out of jail. I wouldn't call $130,000 bond 'free' but if that's what Norman thinks he's better off than most of us. And what does any of this have to do with the President? You need to check your racism at the door before sitting at your computer. Here's a question for you Norman - what color was the lady who killed the little girl getting off the school bus two weeks ago?

How about if the driver's blood alcohol content is above the limit, he gets hit with 500,000 volts of electricity and fries on the spot before he can go out on the highway and kill or maim some poor innocent. That would be a bill I could fully support!!!!

Why wasn't he charged with leaving the scene? What's it going to take...who is Henderson going to kill next? The victim was a better person than Henderson will ever dream of being. So he gets rewarded with freedom while John (Eddie) Ogburn loses any chance of ever fulfilling his dreams. Ignition Interlock Systems? Is that really the solution? What idiot has not heard of having someone else blowing into that thing as the DRUNK offender is behind the wheel ready to kill another innocent person...
