You may have noticed a house on wheels moving around the historic Oak Wood area downtown. The Jordan House is one of eight on the move, to make way for a new development known as Blount Street Commons.
Developers are creating a 21-acrea neighborhood that will offer upscale homes, condos, and retail space at mixed income prices.
Raleigh council member, Thomas Crowder, looks forward to more families moving downtown.
"We need to provide choices for all our citizens and especially downtown," Crowder said, "we have a lot of the high rise condos that have been going up, but we need to provide all types of housing choices and prices," he said.
New homes and condos will range from the $200's to the $400 thousands.
Dozens of historic homes used for state offices were also bought out.
They will be on sale for residential use as well.
