(Raleigh, NC)—The Wolfpack Club, NC State's fundraising organization for athletic scholarships, facilities and endowments, is pleased to announce the inaugural Kay Yow Scholarship Mobile Giving Campaign. This campaign will benefit the Wolfpack Club's Kay Yow Endowment which was established in 2000 to commemorate Yow's 25 year dedication to Wolfpack Athletics. To date, over $400,000 has been raised by this fund in support of female student-athletes at NC State.
The Kay Yow Scholarship Mobile Giving Campaign kicks-off Saturday, November 28, 2009 at the NC State vs. UNC football game with an announcement on the videoboard between the third and fourth quarters. The appeal of this mobile giving campaign, one of the few in the country, is the simplicity of donating through text messaging. To participate, text the word "GO" to 50555. Each text message sent is a $5 donation to the Kay Yow Endowment. The campaign encourages support during Saturday's football game, however the fundraiser will last until November 2010.
Kay Yow, the former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease. Yow, who lead the Wolfpack for 38 years, was a past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). She guided her squads to 20 of the 27 NCAA Tournaments, 11 trips to the Sweet 16, and a trip to the Final Four in 1998.
"Coach Yow was not only a winner on the court, she was a winner off the court as well. She embodied every aspect of what it truly means to be a member of the Wolfpack community," said Bobby Purcell, Executive Director of the Wolfpack Club. "This mobile giving campaign is a way for us to remember and thank Coach Yow for all that she did for NC State Athletics."
