Democratic candidate for governor Beverly Perdue had $1.4 million in her campaign coffers entering the third quarter of this year.
The lieutenant governor released her campaign finances Thursday, covering the final weeks before her May 6 primary with State Treasurer Richard Moore, through June 30. Candidates had to file or mail their reports to the State Board of Elections before midnight Thursday.
Perdue's campaign report says she raised $2.3 million during the filing period. For the entire election cycle dating back to 2005, Perdue has raised $10.7 million.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory reports having more than $700,000 in campaign cash at the end of June, about half the amount available to his Democratic rival.
McCrory's campaign said Friday he raised more than $1 million in the second quarter. Campaign manager Richard Hudson pointed out the Charlotte mayor had raised more in that three-month period than the party's two previous nominees.
In other campaign finance news, Sen. Elizabeth Dole had more than $2.7 million in campaign cash at the end of the second quarter, giving
her more than twice as much as her Democratic challenger. The numbers released Friday come despite the Republican lawmaker's heavy television buy touting her accomplishments. State
Sen. Kay Hagan reported Wednesday having $1.2 million in cash to spend at the end of June.
Dole has burned through some of her cash, however. She entered mid-April with $3.2 million on hand. Meanwhile, Hagan has quadrupled the amount of money available to her in the last three months.
Dole has aired two separate television ads since the May primary.
